- Open Network Control System
- Operator User Interface
- Concept: Operator will browse to an Authentication screen. The screen will display a list of new users that have not yet been authenticated. Operator will then select the new user to be authenticated and assoicate it with a billing account. The operator may need to ask the user for their IP number if there is more than one new user to be authenticated. Once authenticated the user can be assoicated with the same billing details for repeat visits. This means that repeat visitors don't need to authenticated on the next visit.
The system will have a default to allow the owner to allocate the user some data and then change the rules after than - eg limit their speed, cut them off, perform some other action.
The system is able to give each user a data allocation per day.
- Technical Operation
- Issues
- At present I don't know how to see the events of the dhcp server giving out the new address.
- I propose a database that keeps a list of mac addresses with associated rules.
- User Actions
- 1. User Turns on equipment
- 2. User assoicates with AP and is given DHCP address
- 3. User calls operator and requests authentication
- As an option the user could be given a registration card when they sign in at reception that is accoicated with their account. The down side of this is that the user has to be given a web address on the local server that they can browse to.
- 4. Operator authenticates user to access the network
- Concept
- ONCS is a system to allow web based authentication and data allocation to users on a network system such as a community wireless network node.
- Requirments:
- 1. The system must be open source GNU.
- 2. Data recording per MAC
- 3. MAC authentication
- 4. User registration
- 5. Data billing
