2006-04-26 - Growing the network... PDF Print
I've been busy talking to people and I hope inspiring them to share in our adventure...

In the past week I should have been finishing the installation of Bruce's system but I've been focused on growing out community.

This really has all just happened by chance.

I called Brent from Yobbo to have another chat about what he's up to.  Following our conversation I'm commited to down what I can to help grow his customer base for his commerical business and he's offered up a range of assistance with what I'm trying to do.  Like many small data companies one of his major concerns with domestic customer is the huge support issue.  Personally I have total respect for this and think it's an issue that we as a community should be working on to ensure the positive growth of such inovative enterprises.

Hopfully I'm going to be playing with some 5.8gig and 2.4gig equipment this week.

Doing presentations for the Freenix group has really inspired me and others.  I've now had about a half dozen enquiries to get something up and running in their area and am busy working thur the legistics of how we help those people.

The FLOSS server is growing with the addition of software from a number of people that I have yet to find time to load onto the server.

Guests from Wellington have promissed the donation of some more equipment that should help grow the network.

Other CLUG members have also pledged assistance to put me in contact with people who are interested in getting some more rural broadband access up and running in to smaller communities.  What that might mean I have yet to find out but I will be sure to keep you posted.

This weeks goals include modifiying the Mambo templates to include PDA detection so that all my Mambo websites will present acceptable viewing for PDA users.

Cheers Don
