This summer we've been given a heap of gear and over the past year we've amassed bits that can be used to build nodes. This document explains equipment that is being put together at present and where it's going. At the bottom of the document you will find a list of outstanding software issues. Machine 0000: Bowenvale - Peverel Street Node Machine 0001: LES Toshiba Machine 0002: TCN003 Machine 0003: Compaq 1RU Server Machine 0004: Compaq Machine 0005: Machine for Johnno Machine 0006: SML machine Machine 0007: mozart Outstanding Software Issues Machine 0000: Bowenvale - Peverel Street Node This machine is Don Goulds node. www.bowenvale.pointclark.net. Runs Clark Connect 3.2. Has 3 wired nics - eth0:192.168.1.2 <-> DSL Modem/Orcon-TelecomNZ, eth2:192.168.2.1 <-- Don's personal network and used for internal jobs with 'trusted' users. eth2:192.168.3.1 - Community Network, connects to 4 port 10mb hub - connects to Char's Mac only (at present). This machine also has a RA2570 USB dongle on it but it can't be used until we know ONCS works and the Samba problem is fixed. I have users on the other side of the road who expressed interest in getting connected by it can't be done until we have the above fixed. Char, next door, is no hooked up and will be paying $20 per month in to the TCN account - See Account Details Page. Machine 0001: LES Toshiba This machine is used weekly in our LES class. Students normally use this machine in cmdline mode only. The intention is to use this machine to support node builds so that it's apt mirror cache is populated. It is a 233 MHz Pentium MMX with a 2 GB disk and 64 MB RAM. Networking: Trump 10mbit PCMCIA network card, RT2570 network driver installed. Net connection: Currently connected directly to bowenvale: Current Internet Connection eth0:192.168.2.135(via dhclient) <-> bowenvale:eth1
Machine 0002: TCN003 - Soon to be Bruces Node.
This machine is to be deployed at Bruces house with disk space for his network and appropriate security. This machine will also become ns2.bowenvale.co.nz Hardware: Compaq, 32mb, 2 hard disks - 1 is 200gb for bruces files. More ram is to be added when I find ram that works Current Internet Connection eth1:192.168.2.125(via dhclient) <-> bowenvale:eth1
Proposed Internet Connection: Telstra Clear Cable 2mbit/2mbit plan. Static IP See below via iface eth0 inet static address 202.0.50.59 netmask 255.255.255.1 up route add default gw 202.0.50.1
Expectations: Bruce will expect to be able to use normal samba shares to see his 200gb disk from his wifi laptop and his normal desk top. Machine 0003: Compaq 1RU Server Still to be built. The intention is to set up this server to eventually replace 'bowenvale'.
Machine 0004: Compaq ??? Still to be built. The intention is to build this machine to replace the TCN003 machine which was being used in LES classes. Machine 0005: Machine for Johnno Machine 0006: SML machine this machine is on site at SML. It has 4 wifi APs in WDS mode to it. Internet connection: Xtra/Telcom ADSL - bvc.bowenvale.co.nz I've upgraded the mySQL and set up back ports. Machine 0007: mozart A 600 MHz C3-2 with 512 MB RAM and a 200 GB disc. Services available from the community network: * community network DNS * Debian cache * NTP server * Web server Outstanding Software Issues:
Samba Samba - we are still getting smb traffic flow from eth1 to eth2 on Bowenvale.pointclark.net - A retest has to be done now that Neil has put more rules in - 21/1/7 [1:08:45 p.m.] neilstockbridge says: previously i was only blocking 137-139 [1:18:42 p.m.] neilstockbridge says: i've added the rules to the FORWARD as well as INPUT and OUTPUT ONCS ONCS is still to be completed.
