Build Your Own Community Network Node PDF Print
Want to build your own node and get on line with us?  In this section we'll cover how to build it and what it will cost you.

The Concept
You can view a picture of the overall system concept here...  This is a diagram of Don's system from his orginal presentation.  Your 'Lan' will look a little different from his and the ISP may not be Woosh but the ISP of your choice or may even be delivered over your new WiFi WAN link.

What it will cost?
Cost will depend on what you want and need to build.  Following is a break down of what it would cost to build what is shown in Don's Concept Diagram.

ISP - Woosh
Don's currently using a *** Woosh account that costs him $ xx.xx a month with 512kbps/128kbps speed, 1GB of data, a telephone line with callerid and voice mail.

WiFi WAN Link to Yobbo
Don had to install a 25db antenna that can be purchased for $ xx.xx.  This is connected to a normal wifi card worth $ xx.xx   Yobbo charge $5.00 per month with to be connected to their port hill repeater network.

WiFi WAN Link to Neighbours
In stage 2 Don plans to deliver network access to his neighbours.  To do this he'll need a second WiFi Card and an appropriate antenna - $ xx.xx

Clark Connect Server
Don's Clark Connect Server is build on an old 1gb machine with a couple of network card and a 20gb hard drive.  Rik Tindall's Open Source Box Recycling project is committed to helping us find free or low cost boxes with with all the software preloaded for you to start your own machine.

What you'll need and where to get it.
